The Memorial Day weekend began on a wet note as the Stafford Motor Speedway management and NASCAR have postponed the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Series 23rd ANNUAL TSI HARLEY-DAVIDSON 125 due to a forecast for inclement weather. The event has been pushed back two weeks and is now slated to be run at the historic half mile on Friday, June 7.

After two events Rowan Pennink and Ryan Preece are tied for the point lead. One point behind is Mike Stefanik. Rounding out the top five are Ted Christopher and Justin Bonsignore.

In Saturday night action at the Waterford Speedbowl, rain prevailed. Riverhead Raceway on Long Island also fell victim to rain.

Down in the southland at the Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, NC the Myers brothers battled it out in the first of two 25-lap races for the featured Modified Division. Jason Myers held off older brother Burt and celebrated his first victory of the season. In the second race, John Smith held off fellow Mount Airy driver Chris Fleming for his first victory of the season.

Thursday night Thunder at the Thompson Speedway begins this Thursday, May 30. To kick off the weekly race programs, Thompson will feature the exciting Sunoco Modifieds, Late Models, Lite Modifieds, Xtra Mart Limited Sportsman and Monster Mini Stocks. Plus, the Open Pro Stocks will be on hand for the opening Thursday night of racing.

Many of the very best drivers in the northeast compete in the five NASCAR Whelen All-American Series divisions that make up the weekly race card at Thompson. In addition, Thursday night racing at Thompson will present a variety of race cars. In addition to two appearances by the Open Pro Stocks, fans will see Antique Outlaw Modifieds, the New England Race Truck Series, the Northeast Mini Stock Tour, Valenti Modified Racing Series and the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour.

Ryan Preece, the defending champion, will lead the Sunoco Modified contingent. Joining him will be other superb Modified drivers like Ted Christopher, Keith Rocco, Kerry Malone, Woody Pitkat, Dennis Perry and Todd Ceravolo. Every race night, these drivers provide edge-of-the-seat excitement for fans of all ages.

Late Model stars like Icebreaker winner Glenn Boss, Rick Gentes, John Falconi, Damon Tinio and many more bring that division to life while 2012 division champ Cam Mc Dermott, Troy Talman, Adam Norton and John Studley provide the Lite Modified excitement.

The Xtra Mart Limited Sportsman and Monster Mini Stock divisions are always crowd pleasers. Drivers like Scott Sundeen, Larry Barnett, Bill McNeil and Steve Kenneway are just a few of the many who provide the thrills in the Xtra Mart Limited Sportsman division. Chad and Joe Baxter, Scott Michalski, Mike Viens and Eric Bourgeois represent just some of the many talented drivers that make up the Monster Mini Stock division.

Grandstands open at 4 PM with Racing at 6 PM. Tickets are family priced and the race program is thrilling to watch and is fast-paced. A detailed schedule of events along with news, driver points, rosters and much more can be found on the Thompson web page. www.thompsonspeedway.com.

The Ninth Annual Norwood Arena/New England Dragway South Reunion is a go, rain or shine, on Sunday, June 2, at Bezema Motors in Norwood, MA. Race fans will see an exciting combination of race cars, classic cars and motorcycles at the Ninth Annual Norwood Arena/New England Dragway South Reunion at Bezema Motors on US Rt.1 South on the AutoMile in Norwood, MA.

This year there's been a focus on the New England Dragway South which was adjacent to the torn down quarter-mile arena oval. NED South ran for a few years on Friday nights hosting different kinds of drag racing machinery, including jet cars and fuel dragsters.

NASCAR honored a pair of its most famous and successful families with inductions into the Hall of Fame. Past champion Dale Jarrett joined father Ned in the hall and master mechanic Maurice "Chief" Petty became the fourth member of one of NASCAR's most royal families to be selected for enshrinement. Maurice joins older brother, "King" Richard Petty; their father, championship driver Lee Petty; and cousin Dale Inman, Richard's longtime crew chief in the hall.

Tim Flock, a two-time premier series champion, also was selected along with Jack Ingram, who drove to success on what became NASCAR's Nationwide Series; and Fireball Roberts, the flashy showman from the 1950s who raced to 33 victories before his death in 1964.
